How to get relief from hyperacidity?

Most people have suffered from acidity at some point in life and know the amount of discomfort that follows. Once excess hydrochloric acid accumulates in the stomach, it is very essential at the start to remove it out of the system and secondly stop the body from secreting excess.

Try to intake warm salt water on an empty stomach and drink 3 to 4 glasses early morning and evening, post that the body will throw out all the salt water with the acid and you will start feeling better immediately, preferably don’t take any antacids or acidity suppressants because they will only give temporary relief and after few days make you   feel nauseous again because of the accumulated acid.

One might have to do the practice of salt water stomach wash for up to 3 to 4 days to get complete relief from the acid which is irritating the stomach lining

Now what diet is safe in this period for stopping escalation of acidity?

First thing in the morning start with a glass of petha or ash gourd juice. 300 ml. strained without fibre; remove in a cold pressed juicer or mixer and strain. have this juice sip by sip and nothing post this for 1 hour

Mid-morning you can eat chemical free elaichi bananas, pomegranate, apples and pears, avoid citrus fruits

For lunch you may have couscous, barley, jowar, kodo millet, foxtail millet or brown rice; avoid wheat and white rice completely

You have to make a coconut stew along with this. Take a tsp of olive oil, put jeera, curry leaves and small piece of green chilli, add vegetables. Cook till done, switch off the flame. Now pour freshly extracted coconut milk, enjoy a nutritious and light meal. You should use lots of mix veggies like spinach; beans bottle gourd, snake gourd, ridge gourd. Fresh green chana which comes only in winter, carrots, broccoli can also be tried. Red and yellow bell peppers, val papdi , tinda etc. Kindly never intake lady fingers, brinjals, mushrooms, cauliflower and cabbage. Also only moong dal is allowed. No rajma, channa or any other dals are allowed. Milk products of any kind are a complete no-no.

Evening check if you are getting sour or bitter acid refluxes; do the warm water salt stomach wash again. Don’t feel low or worried, the refluxes can continue up to 5 days till the stomach completely gets rid of all the acids.

Post half hour once you are feeling good you may have a small bowl of ghee roasted makhana or kurmura bhel with sendha namak or rock salt, cucumber and tomato

Late evening, a hot veggie soup with no salt will be warm and comforting. Add roasted jeera powder and spinach, then you won’t feel the need for salt
